This package is hands-off for the homeowner. Full-season everything so all you need to do is mow. In the event that your lawn is plagued with grubs we can add an application of grub killer.
The Lawn Max Package comes standard with six visits to your home, with an optional additional visit in late fall for winterization.
In April, as soil temperatures near 55 degrees, we will apply the initial treatment to your lawn. Timing is critical here—our goal is to apply and integrate the pre-emergent herbicide before crabgrass starts to germinate. During the same visit, we will apply the first round of fertilzer.
As soil temperatures approach 70 degrees, typically in late May, we return to do a repeat application of fertilizer and pre-emergent. This split application of pre-emergent extends the length of coverage, as weed seeds will continue to germinate throughout the year. During this visit we will scour your lawn and spot treat any weeds that managed to break through. We will continue this practice through the last visit.
Four to six weeks later we will be back. This time for only for fertilization and weed spot treatment. This fertilization will feature an increased potassium ratio to promote robust root growth, preparing your lawn for the intense heat of the summer months ahead.
Four to six weeks later we come back. It's usually hot now, very hot. Unless is it a rainy summer, your turf is probably stressed. We do not want to apply any raw nitrogen at this time which would force growth on already stressed grass. Instead, we apply a granular biostimulant with a slew of useful ingredients to help your lawn stave off the heat. Additionally, we will take a soil pH test to determine how much, if any, amendment is needed for the next visit. Oh, and of course tackle any weeds while we're there.
Alright, soil temperatures have now dropped back to 70 degrees on the way out of summer. It's time for cool season grasses to flourish! This is where the rubber meets the road for your lawn.
First, we will perform a mechanical core aeration on the turf. This alleviates soil compaction and provides a route for nutrients on the surface to access the root system. Once completed you will see the numerous soil plugs all over the lawn.
Next, it's time to apply lime to amend the soil acidity. Quantity will be based on the midsummer pH test. Cool season grasses like pH around 6 to 7 which is very slightly acidic to neutral.
Lastly, we drop a heavy dose of fertilizer and a third round of pre-emergent to promote turf health and suppress weeds for the remainder of the season.
