Grading before lawn installation is an excellent idea. It provides for a better mowing experience and better property appearance upon job completion. It is preferable to grade a lawn before grass installation. Fill may be need to be added or removed for some jobs.
At Top Turf Lawns our preferred method for grass seed distribution is use of slit seeder machinery.
After seeding we will apply a balanced starter fertilizer to give those new seedlings everything they need to succeed. Combined with the fertilizer is seed-safe crabgrass preventative.
